Summary

In the present paper an assumption is made, that the number of word meanings is equal to the total of its uses. In the native speaker's language consciousness the separate word meanings are united in meanings' groups, number of which is determined pursuant to the Weber-Fechner's psychophysical law.

The operations at fuzzy sets which elements the word meanings in separate sublanguages are, determines the number of word meanings, interpreted in the particular explanatory dictionary.

The distribution of separate word meanings ranked on decreasing meanings' probabilities, asymptotically aims at a geometrical distribution with parameter q = 0,368.

The theoretical conclusions are confirmed by the empirical data of 4 explanatory dictionaries of Russian.
